Dramatic Play: Post Office

We wanted to try something different for our dramatic play centre — and to work in a little Valentine’s Day. We turned the area into a post office.

During circle we talked about letters, envelopes, stamps, postcards, boxes and mail carriers, and what happens when we drop our letters into the big mailbox. Then we made our own letters and postcards for our families, designing and colouring our own stamps.

We folded our letters in half (tricky, but good practice), sealed them with a sticker stamp and an address, and posted them in the mailbox for delivery. Along the way we worked on inclusion, communication, fine-motor skills, the pincer grasp, and letter and colour recognition.
