Cotton Ball Pincer Grasp
Date

We practised our pincer grasp in the sensory bin. We added cotton balls and clothespins, and the preschoolers grew interested in trying to pick up the cotton balls.
While playing, H.C. used colour recognition too — “this is purple” — referring to a clothespin.
This activity helps develop the open-and-close motion we use when picking objects up and putting them down. Building the pincer grasp at a young age lays the foundation for a good pencil grip once school begins.
